TROOP 32 ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL

January 02, 2012

Welcome to the 2012 Troop 32 annual membership renewal or recharter. Every year we are all required to renew our membership in Boy Scouts of America. Because of many changes by the BSA, we are changing our procedures and the dues to renew your membership in the Troop and BSA.

To renew your membership, please submit the following as soon as possible at a Troop meeting, PLC or prior to the Troop meeting on March 6th, 2012.

  1. 2 copies of your Youth Protection training record, for each adult registering. I MUST HAVE THIS, not our rule, this is required by BSA, NO exceptions!! You can copy your certificate, or you can print it off by clicking on "Training Validation" on your www.myscouting.org page for a detailed report of your online training, or last you can just take the course. Please include copies of in-person training certificates of other outing or scouting related training not listed on your training report (e.g., BSA, Red Cross, American Heart Association). Yes I still need it even if you gave it to me last year.
  2. 1 copy of the Membership Renewal / Registration Check List Form. The form can be found at the “Forms” page on the Troop 32 website, or by clicking on the following link: Renewal Form to find and complete the form. We need this information to ensure that our records are complete and accurate. NOTE: If you did this last year I do not need this again. If you are new to the Troop(joined after March 2011) I need you to do this.
  3. 3 copies of the medical form (at least Parts A and B), which you can find the forms on the “Forms” page on the Troop 32 website, or by clicking on the following link: Medical form. They can also be found at www.longhorncouncil.org.
  4. 1 copy of the Troop 32 Resource Survey for each parent, which can be found at “Forms” page on the Troop 32 website, or by clicking on the following link: Resource Survey Form to find and complete the form. NOTE: If you did this last year I do not need this again. If you are new to the Troop(joined after March 2011) I need you to do this.
  5. 1 check made out to Troop 32 for dues and Boys Life subscription. Please include the name of the person(s) being re-registered in the memo line. Note: your son’s Scout Account may be used to pay these fees. If you are not sure what the right amount is, just bring your checkbook with you when you re-register, and someone will assist you.

It looks like a lot, but it will take only about 20 minutes, unless you need to update your YPT.

Dues. Will remain the same as last year. Overall, the Committee believes that the fees are reasonable for the value returned. The fee structure is designed to cover all non-outing based costs associated with running the Troop, share the cost among all users, and manage the costs of providing quality programming in this boy-led Troop. We have instituted a new budgeting methodology, which will help us plan better in the future and better manage our expenses. It will also help ensure that outing, summer camp, high adventure, and similar fees will be set at levels that will target those activities to break even, which has not always been the case.

Training. The BSA now requires every registered adult to have current Youth Protection Training (YPT). YPT is well worth the 20-minute investment. You will find it at www.myscouting.org. If you need your BSA membership number, please contact Carl Barber at clbarber1@verizon.net or Barbara Braack at braack5@att.net. For your son’s safety, every adult attending an outing, except family outings, must be registered and their YPT must be current.

The BSA also asks, and every scout deserves, every Assistant Scoutmaster (ASM) and Troop Committee member to be fully trained.

For ASMs, that means completing the following:

  1. Fast Start (online),
  2. This is Scouting (online),
  3. Unit Leader (Scoutmaster) Specifics or other position-specific training, and
  4. Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS).

For Committee members, being fully trained means completing the following:

  1. Fast Start (online),
  2. This is Scouting (online),
  3. Troop Committee Challenge (online), and
  4. Any position-specific training.

All Committee members and ASMs in T32 are expected to be fully trained. Committee members are also encouraged to have ASM training. If you have already completed the training, just attach copies of the online report from www.myscouting.org and copies of applicable in-person training programs with your membership renewal form.

If you are not fully trained yet, you will find the experience well worth the investment in your son and for your understanding of Scouting. Please update your records with the Troop by emailing your progress to Bob Smith at smithbsa@charter.net. Unit Leader (Scoutmaster) Specifics information is available on the Longhorn Council website. Check for the next IOLS course on Longhorn’s training website. You can register for these courses at www.mustang-district.org.

You do not have to be an ASM or Troop Committee Member to register as an adult Scouter. Every parent is welcome to register and to participate in Troop activities. YPT is required even if you don’t register as an ASM or Troop Committee Member.

Medical Forms. In accordance with BSA policy, every Scout and Scouter must provide completed medical forms. This is about safety for everyone -- both Scouts and adults. You can find the forms on the “Forms” page on the Troop 32 website, or by clicking on the following link: Medical form. The BSA has changed the form again; so please make sure you use the 2011 form, which includes pages for the high adventure bases.  Only Parts A and B will be required at this time. Anyone attending summer camp, high adventure, and other Troop high adventure treks will likely have to complete other parts of the form too. Because the Troop is incorporating more outdoor adventures into our program, Part C might be required next year. The Troop needs three (3) copies of the medical forms, including copies of the front and back of the insurance card.

Membership Renewal Form.  Please go to the “Forms” page on the Troop 32 website, or by clicking on the following link: Renewal Form to find and complete the form. You can type in the data there. Adults will have the opportunity to consider ways to assist to the Troop. Most of the parents already do, and we thank you very much for your service. Every contribution to the quality of the Troop benefits both your son and all the people he and his buddies will influence now and for generations to come.

Troop Resource Survey. Your son’s Troop is constantly in need of volunteer support. We hope you will consider volunteering your time in service to your son, the Troop, and the betterment of society. Please complete the survey go to the “Forms” page on the Troop 32 website, or by clicking on the following link: Resource Survey Form to find and complete the form. Thank you for your time and energy!
